Why flying planes ?
Because I really like it (still)
How did you start ?
Flying gliders in Berne on the famous “Rhoenlerche”
For how long are you flying and what is your experience in terms of Championships ?
I started flying 35 years ago (reading that number almost hearts a bit J). Aerobatics I started to fly shortly after my PPL 1992 in the US on a Decathlon. The first competition I participated was Lodrino in 2002, I flew Sportsman through and including Unlimited (Unlimited only for 1 year in Yverdon in 2009). Afterwards I had a 9 year-break flying competitions and started again in 2019 in the new Category Excellence
Why the Extra?
It is a fantastic Aircraft, with well-balanced controls
If there would be only one, which would it be ?
For Aerobatics the EA 330 SC, for commercial Flying the A330 (funny that number really has something)
What is your favourite figure ?
The Inverted flat spins, because I think it is a really peaceful, enjoyable manoeuvre
Any quotes or short stories linked to your pilot’s life you would like to share with us ?
There would be probably a few. Commercially I was training pilots in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brazil, Singapore… and had two engine failures, three failures to extend the landing gear, a really sporty electrical failures, smoke, a heavily vibrating aircraft, a few times hairy weather J, interesting passengers… Best to be shared in front of a beer, I guess
Do you have other hobbies when you are grounded ?
I play with passion (but pretty badly) Tennis J, beside I am working quite a lot
What is your wish in terms of SAA or aerobatics in Switzerland ?
I believe that Jerome has a lot of energy and commitment to bring the SAA forward. I truly like the Hamilton-Cup, I hope the SAA continues to develop the way it does.
Who is the next MoM ?
Jérôme Cusin
